Mint green tea is a very simple drink to make-just steep green tea leaves together with fresh mint, and enjoy a refreshing, aromatic flavor. Using wild mint that grows naturally in your garden enhances the taste, making the tea even more flavorful.

  • Green tea leaves – 4g (about 2 heaping teaspoons)

  • Fresh mint leaves – 2g to 6g (a generous handful, according to your taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mint:
Gently tear the mint leaves by hand to help release their aroma. Rinse under water and pat dry.

  2. Boil the Water:
Pour 300ml of water into a small pot and bring it to a boil.

  3. Add Tea and Mint:
Add the green tea leaves and mint to the pot. Once it returns to a boil, remove from heat.

  4. Steep:
Cover the pot and let the mixture steep for about 3 minutes.

  5. Strain and Serve:
Strain the tea into cups using a tea strainer. Add sugar to taste if desired. For a Moroccan-style touch, use more sugar.

  6. To Enjoy Cold:
Pour the prepared tea over a glass filled with ice for a cool and refreshing version-perfect for hot days.

Tips & Variations

  • Types of Mint:
Try different varieties like spearmint, peppermint, apple mint, or pineapple mint. Each brings a unique flavor and level of freshness.

  • Choice of Tea:
Japanese green teas like sencha or gyokuro work well. If you prefer a stronger mint flavor, use a bit less tea.

  • No Fresh Mint?
You can also use dried mint if fresh is unavailable. Adjust the amount and steeping time to your preference.

  • Storage:
Store any leftover tea in the refrigerator and consume it within a short time for the best flavor.

Mint green tea is a perfect drink for humid days or whenever you need a refreshing change. Feel free to experiment with different types of mint and teas to find the combination you love most.
