The allure of matcha lies in its rich aroma, intense flavor, abundant nutrients, deep connection to Japanese traditional culture, and its vibrant, photogenic green color. Especially noteworthy is the fact that matcha is made by grinding whole tea leaves into a fine powder, allowing you to consume all the nutrients including vitamins and dietary fiber, making it recognized as a “superfood” for health and beauty.

Flavor and Nutrition

  • Rich and deep taste: Because whole leaves are powdered, matcha offers a concentrated umami flavor combined with refreshing bitterness and a unique astringency.

  • Abundant nutrients: It contains catechins, theanine, vitamin C, dietary fiber, and more, which bring antioxidant effects, relaxation benefits, and skin-enhancing properties.

  • Whole-nutrient intake: Unlike brewed tea, matcha powder allows you to ingest nutrients that are not water-soluble, maximizing health benefits.

Culture and Spirituality

  • Symbol of Japanese culture: Matcha is more than a drink; it embodies the spirit of hospitality (“omotenashi”), the philosophy of “ichigo ichie” (a once-in-a-lifetime encounter), and the aesthetic of “wabi-sabi” (beauty in imperfection and transience) found in the tea ceremony.

  • A sensory experience: The rising fragrance, vibrant green color, the interplay of bitterness and umami on the palate, the sound of the whisk, and the warmth of the tea bowl together create a serene, multi-sensory ritual.
