愛宕念仏寺, Kyoto- Japanese Home Cooking and Sweets Class in Tokyo
Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, located in the Oku-Sagano area of Kyoto, is a temple of the Tendai school of Buddhism. It is known for the 1,200 expressive stone statues of Buddhist disciples, or rakan, that line its grounds.
The temple stands along the approach to Mount Atago and is often described as the “starting point for exploring Sagano.” It is a relatively quiet and peaceful sightseeing spot. Kyoto City Official Travel Guide

Access: Get off at the “Otagi-dera-mae” bus stop on a Kyoto Bus bound for Kiyotaki; the temple is just outside the bus stop.

The temple’s principal image is the Thousand-Armed Kannon, believed to protect visitors from misfortune. The main hall, built during the Kamakura period, is designated as an Important Cultural Property. Recommended Walking Route
From Arashiyama, take a Kyoto Bus to Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple first. From there, walk downhill toward Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple, Gioji Temple, Nison-in Temple, and the bamboo grove area of Sagano. This route makes for a pleasant and easy-to-follow walk.
